West versus East – 8 years on

Is there any deeper significance in the fact that ‘the West’ tends to attack ‘the East’ in the month of March?

I remember vividly watching the TV in the hospital at the time of Zosia’s birth eight years ago as the news of the first attacks on Iraq flowed through in what proved to be a never ending stream of war as entertainment.

Here we are today, Zosia has blown out the candle on her eighth birthday cake and we have Western alliance fighter jets over Libya. Nothing much has changed.

It was Shakespeare who penned Caesar’s warning “beware the ides of March”, which is usually held to mean the 15th of that month and was indeed the time of his murder. The ides of March was traditionally a festive day dedicated to Mars, the Roman god of war.

Both Iraq and now Libya were started very close to the ides of March. Are we missing something important here?

Oh yes – Happy Birthday Zosia!! Who’d have thought eight years could pass so quickly.

Time sure does fly. Love your cake :)
I hate to talk about war or even think of it on her birthday. Maybe it is because it is so close to the Full Moon and that’s when crazy things happen.
