Today is going to be one of those strange days where you wake up in one country and go to sleep in another!
We’re offski to England today and will come back on the 27th. My parent’s home is completely devoid of any of those pesky devices like dishwashers or computers so instead of writing blog posts I’ll be stuck with my hands in the sink! By some innocent accident of planning on my part we won’t actually be seeing my parents as they are, by now, somewhere in the air on the way to Majorca for a couple of weeks but we’ll be camping out in their place anyway.
The agenda for the trip is best described as “loose”. We have flights to Edinburgh organised for a day return trip on Thursday. At 145 quid for all three of us this must be cheaper and certainly quicker than any other way of getting there, so why not! That’ll be a long day as we take off at about 07:30 and return at about 22:00 but the family gets to see a bit of Scotland.
Apart from that nothing is fixed but the list of possibilities is long. I’ve got a sat-nav waiting for me when I arrive to aid navigation in a country I am gradually forgetting my way around and I’ve noted the post-codes for the following:
- Shakespeare’s stuff
- Warwick Castle
- Wedgewood visitors centre
- Ironbridge, Telford
- Matlock Bath
- Peak Cavern, Blue John Cavern
- Conkers adventure park
- Nottingham Castle
- Chester zoo
- Caernarfon Castle
- Snowdon mountain railway
- Welsh highland railway
- Windermere lake cruises
Inevitably, a certain amount of time will be used up with that thing called “shopping” in either Nottingham, Chester, the local Tesco or all three. Yuk!
The travel Gods have been mixed in their response to the trip. One has thrown us the best ever exchange rate where 100 zloty will buy us a 25 quid fish/chip/mushy peas dinner, the other has granted us traditional British weather – chilly and raining!
Have fun y’all. See you when we get back.
