WARSAW, POLAND…..AND A LOT OF OTHER STUFF I NEEDED TO WRITE ABOUT.

A technological breakthrough?

with 6 comments

I’ve bought the handycam, I’ve upgraded my WordPress account, I’ve installed the software, I’ve downloaded the video file, I’ve clipped it and I’ve converted it to mwv format. I’ve then buggered around with everything a bit more. As a result of all this hard work and a little quantitative easing to the tune of approximately $1,100, you should be able to watch the video below.

This was taken at Zosia’s ballet school end of year show. She’s not in it, nor is it a particularly good clip [I was struggling with exposure issues] of one group at the school dancing the Polonez but it is (if it works) one small step for man, one giant leap for blogkind!

I’ve tried YouTube in the past and was not happy with the quality of the end result, nor was I happy with having my stuff on such a globally popular site. This, if it works, is something I’ll be much happier with and therefore use more often.

The implications of this for all you dear readers of 20east (and possibly Polandian also) are too frightening to contemplate! :)

If you would be so kind, let me know if it works for you and what you think about “The role of video in blog posts”.

  1. I love video in blogging! sometimes you want to quote a reference from a film, or show people something that makes you happy, or play a song that reflects a certain mood.
I don’t particularly like YouTube either – people sometimes take down the videos, and the quality isn’t all that good. However – and this is probably due to my dodgy wireless internet connection – your video was very skippy and not really watchable, at least on my computer.

  2. On my computer it was perfectly watchable.

But i usually have many problems with high quality videos on my notebook. Probably my CPU and RAM is not good enough.

  3. Far, far too short! Where is the middle bit, where they pull out tophats and canes and segue into the tap number? And after that, the quick change into sailor suits for the fabulous nautical themed number? And the grand finale, with the huge pink tutus and the floral wreaths in the hair? I’m rather disappointed at the brevity of your posting, but look forward to a feature-length version in future.

Oh, and a tripod might help for smoother panning side to side. Other than that? Very watchable.

  4. Pino – can you watch YouTube videos more easily with your dodgy connection? Is mine worse than most or do you need a better connection is the question?

guest – I’ll try to post when you’re not using your laptop!

expateek – Zosia’s group did “Singing in the Rain” a la Gene Kelly so it had most of what you’re looking for. Can’t be arsed to carry a tripod around. :)

  5. Thanks for posting the clip although I was expecting it to run longer. I saw if perfectly on my PC….What no Zosia… :( (call me disappointed) =^..^=

I like You Tube… a picture says a 100 words and a moving picture really speaks out loud. (for any format)
I have gotten some lessons in peirogi making and watercolors. :D
