Zlota 44 – May 7th
Here’s where they were at last week
One tower crane had been erected over the long weekend and still more tons of reinforcement going into the ground slab. The crane was busy extending itself on the day I took these photos. The cab of the crane started out level with the 8th floor of Lumen and then kept inserting new sections and getting higher and higher. The method is to unbolt the top of the crane from the bottom, then use the darker red “lumpy bit” (just below the cab) to hold everything together while it jacks up the top section leaving a hole. A new section is then slid into the hole and it is all bolted together again. Keep repeating until you get as high as you want.
In this picture they had just slid a new section into place whilst the next section was already dangling from the jib waiting its turn.
In the background you have (left to right) Rondo 1, Warsaw Towers (the short one), Warsaw Finance Centre, Intercontinental Hotel.
I’ll take more soon because the first crane is now very high and the second is growing.
