No shit, Sherlock!

Today’s “NSS” award goes to, Shropshire GP, Dr Roger Henderson for this stunning piece of detective work:

If they managed to survive plague and pestilence, medieval humans may have enjoyed healthier lifestyles than their descendants today, it has been claimed.

But what’s with the word “may” and that whole “it is claimed” business? Is that the good doctor’s “may/claimed” or the BBC’s “may/claimed”. Why do we need a “may/claimed” in there anyway, for goodness’ sake. Is this note of caution signifying;

  1. That someone’s about to invent a time machine and go back to check the health of medieval humans.
  2. The usual ass-covering writing that we get so damned used to these days?
  3. That the person writing the article really has no confidence in the story whatsoever and feels a need to distance themselves from their own article?

Why can’t people just write what they think any more? Why is the world today full of pussyfooters?

I’ll bet you all $100 right now that medieval people (when not dying from plague, pestilence, torture or beheading) enjoyed a healthier lifestyle than we do today. There, I said it. Prove me wrong.

Furthermore, what is coming of the BBC that they feel the need to report such completely pointless cybernoise?

I don’t know….kids today…!

Thin end of the wedge

Just a few snippets from today’s British papers:

“More than 100,000 young Britons may have been pushed into unemployment by the new wave of Eastern European immigrants, an economic analysis on the impact of migration has revealed.”

“Surely it is time we started to turn out our own highly qualified and hard-working plumbers, electricians, plasterers and brickies, rather than continue to require them to be bused in from Gdansk and all points east?”

“IMMIGRANT Polish mums are going home to have babies because they have so little faith in UK maternity services.” (with very much to be expected comments below the article)

David Davis, the Shadow Home Secretary, said: “This is yet another desperate grab for headlines by an immigration minister who does not recognise the need for a strict limit on the number of economic migrants coming into Britain.”
